The challenge.
IDEAS xLab is an artist-run organization based in Louisville and working nationally that champions inclusion and belonging through creativity, art, and action. Named Nonprofit of the Year by the Derby Diversity & Business Summit in 2019, IDEAS xLab's HEAL Community Approach was named an international good practice by UCLG Culture 21.
What we did.
- Provided strategic counsel on The (un)Known Project — the work-of-art-and-history collaboration with the Frazier History Museum and Roots 101
- Supported partnerships with Louisville Metro Government departments
- Helped position the HEAL Community Approach for international recognition
- Built fundraising scaffolding for limestone benches, poetry, photography, and arts-based experiences along the Ohio River

The (un)Known Project — created by Hannah Drake and Josh Miller — is now a featured work of art and history, designating its location as a monumental site and symbol of African American history.
