In a large skillet over medium-high heat, brown the ground beef, breaking it up as it cooks.
Once the beef is cooked through, drain any excess grease. Stir in the can of sloppy joe sauce.
Simmer the sloppy joe mixture for a few minutes until it's hot and bubbly.
While the meat simmers, slice the processed cheese block into 8 long strips, about the size of a hot dog.
Arrange the hot dog buns in a baking pan. Place one hot dog in each bun, followed by a strip of the processed cheese alongside it.
Spoon the prepared sloppy joe mixture evenly over the top of all the hot dogs.
Sprinkle the shredded sharp cheddar cheese over the sloppy joe topping.
Bake in a preheated 400°F (200°C) oven for 10-15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
Carefully remove from the oven and serve immediately.
Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat in a 350°F oven for 10 minutes or until warmed through.
Yes. Prepare the ground beef and sauce mixture up to 2 days ahead and refrigerate. Reheat gently before spooning onto hot dogs and baking.
Bake at 350°F for about 15 minutes, or until the cheese is fully melted and the hot dogs are heated through.
Yes. Swap processed cheese for American or provolone, and sharp cheddar for mild cheddar, Monterey Jack, or pepper jack for heat.
Toast the buns lightly before assembly, or assemble and bake immediately rather than letting them sit assembled for extended time.
Absolutely. Use your favorite homemade sloppy joe recipe—about 1.5 cups of finished sauce will work for 8 hot dogs.
