In a large bowl, combine molasses, ginger paste, soy sauce, low-sodium chicken broth, rice vinegar, garlic powder, red pepper flakes, and hoisin sauce. Whisk until well combined to create the basting sauce.
Place the spiral ham on a wire rack set inside a foil-lined baking sheet.
Using about half of the prepared sauce, baste the ham thoroughly, making sure to get the sauce in between the slices.
Bake the ham for 45 minutes, basting with more sauce every 10 minutes. (Note: Oven temperature was not specified, 325°F is standard for reheating cooked ham).
After 45 minutes, remove the ham from the oven. Carefully pour the pan drippings into a separate bowl.
Add 2 tablespoons of molasses to the pan drippings and stir to create the final glaze.
Brush the final glaze all over the ham.
Return the ham to the oven and bake until the glaze is caramelized and has developed a deep color.
Remove from the oven, let rest briefly, then slice and serve.
Store leftover ham covered in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. Reheat gently in a 325°F oven with additional glaze, or slice and warm in a skillet.
Yes. Prepare the glaze (molasses, soy sauce, broth, rice vinegar, ginger, garlic powder, pepper flakes, and hoisin) up to 2 days ahead and refrigerate. Warm before brushing onto ham.
Bake until the internal temperature reaches 140°F for a pre-cooked spiral-cut ham. The glaze should be caramelized and sticky on the exterior.
Wrap slices in foil and warm in a 325°F oven for 10–15 minutes, or microwave on 50% power. Brush with leftover glaze to restore moisture and shine.
Yes. Use an equal amount of honey, brown sugar (dissolved in water), or dark corn syrup. Molasses gives the deepest color and richness, but these alternatives work well.
An 8–10 lb spiral-cut ham typically serves 12–16 people as a main course (about 3/4 lb per person including bone weight).
