Instructions

1
Run a lime wedge around the rim of your cocktail glass. If desired, dip the rim into a plate of coarse sugar. Editor's Tip: For extra holiday pizzazz, use red or green sugar to rim the glass.
2
In an empty cocktail shaker, add the tequila, pineapple juice and blue curacao. Fill the shaker with ice, cover tightly and shake for 15 to 20 seconds until frost forms on the outside.
3
Strain the drink into your prepared glass. If you want that unmistakable Grinch green, stir in a drop or two of green food coloring. Top it off with a maraschino cherry. Editor's Tip: Food coloring can be added to the shaker for a deeper, more consistent color or after the pour if only a minor adjustment is needed.

Tips & Notes

Pro tips

Run the lime wedge around the rim before adding sugar to help it adhere; use red or green sugar instead of plain coarse sugar for extra holiday flair.
Shake for the full 15–20 seconds until visible frost forms on the shaker—this ensures proper dilution and temperature for a balanced drink.
Add green food coloring after pouring for light adjustment or in the shaker for a deeper, consistent color throughout the entire batch.
Chill your cocktail glass before pouring to keep the drink colder longer without over-dilution.

Substitutions

Blanco tequila → silver or platinum tequila (mild difference in flavor profile)
Pineapple juice → mango or passion fruit juice (fruity note changes slightly, may require sweetness adjustment)

Storage & make-ahead

Cocktails are best served immediately after shaking and straining; leftover mixed ingredients (before shaking) keep refrigerated for up to 24 hours.

Equipment

cocktail shaker · cocktail strainer · jigger or measuring cup

Common Questions

How do you make the Grinch cocktail green?

Add one or two drops of green food coloring after pouring the strained drink into the glass, or stir it into the shaker before straining for a deeper, more consistent color throughout.

Can you make Grinch cocktails ahead of time?

Mix the tequila, pineapple juice, and blue curaçao in advance, but shake with ice and strain just before serving to ensure proper chilling and texture.

What can you substitute for blue curaçao in a Grinch cocktail?

Blue curaçao is key to the flavor profile; no direct substitute maintains the same taste, though other citrus liqueurs can be used if necessary with adjusted sweetness.
