cocktail shaker · jigger or measuring cup · Martini glass (for Old Gold) · rocks glass (for Supernatural Margarita) · 12 oz Pilsner glass (for El Beso) · fine-mesh strainer (for double straining the Margarita)
No. These cocktails should be prepared fresh to order. Shake with ice just before serving to maintain proper dilution, temperature, and carbonation (especially for the basil garnish in the Supernatural Margarita).
The Old Gold and Supernatural Margarita call for Casa Noble Reposado, aged for a smoother profile. El Beso uses Casa Noble Crystal (unaged blanco), which offers brighter citrus notes. Do not substitute between the two in these specific recipes.
Ginger beer or ginger syrup could work in a pinch, but Canton Ginger Liqueur's specific sweetness and spice are key to the competition recipe. For best results, use the original ingredient.
Double straining means pouring the cocktail through both the shaker's built-in strainer and a fine-mesh strainer simultaneously to remove all ice shards and pulp, creating a smoother texture.
Squeezing fresh orange releases oils and juice directly into the drink for brighter citrus flavor, while dropping the peel adds visual appeal and aroma. This technique distinguishes the drink from pre-made orange juice.
