Instructions
1
Blend all ingredients (except the ice) in a high-speed blender for 1 minute. Add maple syrup if you like it sweet like traditional Gatorade. No need to blend or strain the blue lemon-limeade, July 4th strawberry lemonade or apple cider flavor (just stir/whisk). For layered drinks do not blend the first layer of fruit puree into the main drink. Place in the bottom of your glass and layer with crushed ice and then the strained, blended drink.
2
Pour the drink through a mini strainer over a glass filled with ice. Fill to the top, then use a glass straw to stir and chill. Enjoy immediately! See the notes in this recipe card below and see the full blog post write up above this recipe card for why these ingredients help with proper hydration and energy.

Tips & Notes
Pro tips
Use a high-speed blender for smooth, consistent texture; blend for exactly 1 minute to avoid over-processing.
For layered drinks, keep the first fruit-puree layer separate at the bottom of the glass and layer with crushed ice and the coconut water base on top for visual appeal.
Strain immediately after blending to remove pulp and seeds; use a mini strainer held over the ice-filled glass.
Taste before serving and adjust citrus juice, maple syrup, or mineral salt to your preference—electrolyte and sweetness needs vary by individual and activity level.
Substitutions
Unsweetened coconut water → coconut milk diluted with water or plain filtered water with added trace mineral drops (maintains hydration base)
Frozen unsweetened wild blueberries → fresh blueberries at 2x volume, or other frozen berries (flavor intensity may shift)
Pure maple syrup → raw honey or coconut nectar (adjust to taste; honey adds its own mineral profile)
Unrefined mineral salt → pink Himalayan salt or Celtic sea salt (maintain same quantity for electrolyte balance)
Storage & make-ahead
Store strained drink in an airtight glass container in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours; add fresh ice before serving. Blend base ingredients up to one day ahead, then strain and chill just before consuming for optimal freshness and nutrient retention.

Common Questions
What makes this better than store-bought Gatorade?
This drink uses whole-food ingredients like coconut water for natural electrolytes and mineral salt instead of refined sugars, artificial dyes, and additives. You control sweetness with optional maple syrup.
Do I need to strain the drink after blending?
Most flavors should be strained through a mini strainer before serving. However, the blue lemon-limeade, strawberry lemonade, and apple cider flavors do not require blending or straining—just stir or whisk.
Can I make this ahead of time?
Yes, blend the base and fruit mixture up to 24 hours in advance and store in the refrigerator. Strain and add ice just before drinking for best flavor and texture.
How much maple syrup should I add?
Start with 1 teaspoon and taste; add up to 2 teaspoons if you prefer it sweeter. Adjust based on the natural sweetness of your chosen fruit.
What type of salt should I use?
Use unrefined mineral salt (such as sea salt or Himalayan pink salt) to ensure you're getting trace minerals. Start with 1/8 teaspoon and increase to 1/4 teaspoon to taste.
