To quickly chill a warm bottle, place it in an ice bucket.
Fill the bucket with ice cubes.
Pour 4 tablespoons of salt over the ice and stir to combine.
Add cold water to the bucket, filling it up to the body of the bottle.
Let the bottle sit in the ice bath for 10 minutes. It will be perfectly chilled.
To keep an opened bottle of champagne bubbly, place a metal spoon (handle-down) into the neck of the bottle and refrigerate.
To revive flat champagne, drop a single raisin into the bottle. The raisin will absorb and release the remaining carbon dioxide, making it bubbly again.
Store open champagne upright with a cork or wine stopper in the refrigerator for up to 5 days to maintain carbonation.
bucket or large bowl · wine stopper or cork · thermometer (optional, for checking bottle temperature)
Fill a bucket with 4-6 cups ice cubes and 4 tbsp salt, add 4 cups cold water, then submerge the 750 ml bottle for about 10 minutes. Salt lowers the freezing point of ice, accelerating the cooling process.
Salt dissolves in the thin layer of water on ice, lowering the freezing point below 32°F (0°C). This forces more ice to melt, absorbing heat from the champagne bottle and chilling it faster.
Seal an open champagne bottle with a stopper or wine cap and store it upright in the refrigerator. Properly sealed, it can retain carbonation for 3-5 days.
Yes. A raisin contains nucleation sites where gas bubbles can form. Drop one into flat champagne to trigger re-carbonation and restore some bubbles.
Yes, this ice-salt-water method works for any 750 ml bottle of sparkling wine, prosecco, or champagne.
