Unwrap: Remove the outside wrapper to reveal the wax coated cheese. Remove the wax strip that goes round the centre of the cheese.
Make the face: Using a small sharp knife, make different monster faces in the Babybels.
Add the honey: Add a little honey to the edible eyes. Use the handle of a teaspoon for ease.
Stick on the eyes: Stick the eyes onto the wax coating, along with any of the cut-out wax you want to use for eyebrows, horns, wings, etc.
Make a horde: Repeat for as many cheeses you are making.
Store completed monsters in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 days; no reheating needed.
Yes, assemble them up to 2 hours before serving and store in the fridge to keep the cheese firm and eyes adhered.
Apply a small dab of honey to the back of each edible eye before pressing it onto the wax coating; the honey acts as an adhesive.
Yes, regular Babybel works the same way; the light version was used here but either type carves and decorates identically.
Best for ages 5 and up with adult supervision when using a sharp knife to carve faces; younger children can decorate with eyes.
Yes, save the wax strip removed from the centre and cut-out pieces from carving to stick on as eyebrows, horns, or wings using honey.
