Butter the cut sides of the potato bun and toast on a hot griddle until golden brown.
Place two balls of ground beef onto the hot griddle.
Using a burger press or spatula, smash the beef balls into thin patties.
Cook until a dark crust forms on the bottom, then flip the patties.
Top each patty with a portion of caramelized onions.
Place a slice of white American cheese on top of each patty.
Cover the patties with a melting dome to melt the cheese.
Once the cheese is melted, stack one patty on top of the other.
To assemble the burger, spread burger sauce on the toasted bottom bun.
Layer dill pickle slices, lettuce, and tomato slices on the bottom bun.
Place the stacked beef patties on top of the vegetables.
Arrange crispy bacon strips over the cheese.
Spread more burger sauce on the top bun and place it on the burger.
Top the burger with two large onion rings and secure with a pick.
Serve immediately with a side of french fries.
Assemble and serve immediately. Pre-cooked burger components (patties, bacon, caramelized onions) can be refrigerated separately for up to 2 days and reheated gently before assembly.
griddle or cast iron skillet · burger spatula or offset spatula
Pressing a small ball of ground beef flat against a hot griddle or cast iron creates a thin patty that develops a golden, crispy crust through high-heat contact in 1-2 minutes per side.
Yes. Caramelize onions up to 3 days ahead and store in an airtight container in the refrigerator. Reheat gently before assembling the burger.
Toast the potato bun with butter to add structural integrity, assemble in order (sauce, cheese, onions, bacon on bottom patty; lettuce, tomato, pickles on top), and serve immediately.
Cook bacon in a skillet over medium heat until crispy (8-10 minutes), then drain on paper towels. This ensures it stays crispy and doesn't add excess moisture to the burger.
American cheese melts fastest and most evenly on a hot patty. Cheddar or Swiss work as substitutes, but may require slightly longer to melt.
