Blackjack Cocktail (Kirschwasser Brandy Coffee)

Pro tips

• Use freshly brewed hot coffee to properly dilute the spirits and release their aromatics.
• Chill glasses first if serving cold to avoid over-dilution from melting ice.
• Measure precisely: the 1:0.5:1 ratio balances cherry notes with brandy warmth—adjust to taste only after tasting.
• Stir spirits together before adding coffee to ensure even blending.

Substitutions

• Kirschwasser → Cherry liqueur or maraschino (lighter cherry flavor)
• Brandy → Cognac or bourbon (bolder, spicier finish)
• Coffee → Strong espresso or cold brew concentrate (same strength)

Can I make this cocktail without Kirschwasser?

Yes. Cherry liqueur, maraschino liqueur, or Cointreau work as substitutes, though the cherry-forward flavor will shift.

Should this cocktail be served hot or cold?

Serve warm or at room temperature with hot coffee added; chill ingredients if serving cold as a spirit-forward drink.

What type of coffee works best?

Use freshly brewed strong coffee (espresso or dark roast) to balance the sweetness of the brandy and Kirschwasser.

Can I batch this cocktail in advance?

Mix the spirits in advance; add hot coffee just before serving for best flavor and temperature.
