Place the sliced yellow onion in the bottom of the slow cooker.
Arrange the chicken breast halves on top of the onions.
Sprinkle the packet of au jus gravy mix over the chicken.
Sprinkle the packet of onion soup mix on top.
Pour the can of condensed French onion soup over everything.
Top with pads of butter.
Cover and cook on low for 6 hours or on high for 4 hours.
Once the chicken is cooked, place the mozzarella slices on top.
Cover again for a few minutes to allow the cheese to melt.
Serve the chicken hot, spooning some of the sauce from the slow cooker over it.
