In a food processor, combine the canned tomatoes, roughly chopped onion, cilantro, garlic, jalapeños, salt, lime juice, and sugar.
Pulse the ingredients in the food processor until the salsa reaches your desired consistency. Do not over-blend.
Cut the corn tortillas into quarters to make chips.
Heat vegetable oil in a deep fryer or a heavy-bottomed pot to approximately 350°F (175°C).
Carefully add the tortilla quarters to the hot oil and fry until golden brown and crispy, about 1-2 minutes.
Remove the chips from the oil using a slotted spoon or fryer basket and drain on a wire rack or paper towels. Immediately sprinkle with salt.
Serve the fresh salsa with the warm, homemade tortilla chips.
