Old Mr. Boston Dry Gin is traditional, but any quality dry gin works. Choose one with crisp botanicals that won't overpower the apple brandy.
Grenadine adds sweetness and color; omit it for a drier drink, or substitute with simple syrup if you prefer less pomegranate flavor.
Shake with ice to chill and combine the ingredients evenly, then strain into a coupe or cocktail glass.
Calvados is the classic choice, though American applejack or other apple brandies work. Choose one with clear apple character.
