Screwdriver Cocktail (Classic Vodka and Orange Juice)

Pro tips

• Chill your glass with ice before pouring to keep the drink colder longer.
• Use fresh or high-quality orange juice for better flavor; pulpy juice adds texture and brightness.
• Pour vodka first, then top with juice to control the strength and flavor balance.
• Stir gently after pouring to blend the ingredients without excessive dilution.

Substitutions

• Vodka → gin or light rum (changes the drink profile but maintains the citrus base)
• Orange juice → grapefruit juice or cranberry juice (creates a different flavor variation)
• Orange juice → fresh-squeezed orange juice (improves flavor and reduces artificial taste)

Storage & make-ahead

Mix only when ready to serve. Pre-mixed batches can be refrigerated for up to 2 hours but taste best fresh.

What is a Screwdriver cocktail?

A Screwdriver is a simple mixed drink made with vodka and orange juice, typically served over ice. It's one of the most classic and approachable cocktails.

Can I use bottled orange juice instead of fresh?

Yes, bottled orange juice works fine. Fresh-squeezed juice will taste brighter, but either option is acceptable for this drink.

What's the best ratio of vodka to orange juice?

The standard ratio is 1 part vodka to 3 parts orange juice (1.5 oz vodka to 4.5–5 oz juice), but adjust to taste preference.

Do I need special glassware?

No. Serve in a highball glass, rocks glass, or any drinking glass over ice. No special equipment needed.

Can I make this ahead for a party?

Mix vodka and juice separately ahead of time, then combine over ice when serving to keep the drink fresh and properly chilled.
