Sloe Driver Cocktail Recipe

Pro tips

• Use fresh ice to slow dilution—dense, clear ice melts slower than home-freezer cubes.
• Pour sloe gin first, then add mixer and ice to control sweetness and carbonation retention.
• Chill your glass 10 minutes before serving to keep the drink cold longer.
• Taste as you mix; some sloe gins vary in sweetness, so adjust the mixer ratio to preference.

Substitutions

• Sloe gin → blackberry liqueur (slightly drier, less traditional but similar fruit profile)
• Tonic water → ginger beer (spicier, warmer flavor; reduces the brightness)

What is sloe gin and where do I find it?

Sloe gin is a liqueur made by infusing gin with sloe berries (blackthorn fruit). It's darker and sweeter than regular gin and available at most liquor stores in the gin or liqueur section.

Can I make a Sloe Driver without Old Mr. Boston brand?

Yes. Any quality sloe gin works—Gordon's, Tanqueray, or store-brand sloe gin will produce the same balanced result.

What mixers pair best with sloe gin in this drink?

Tonic water, ginger ale, and lemon-lime soda are common choices. Tonic offers brightness; ginger ale adds spice; soda keeps it sweet.

Is the Sloe Driver served hot or cold?

Serve over ice in a chilled glass for a refreshing, cold cocktail.

What glass should I use?

A highball or rocks glass works best to accommodate ice and mixer without diluting the sloe gin flavor too quickly.
