Sloe gin is a liqueur made by infusing gin with sloe berries (blackthorn fruit), creating a dark red, fruity spirit with around 26–30% ABV, sweeter than regular gin.
Not directly—regular gin lacks the fruity sweetness. Use gin with a berry liqueur or crème de cassis instead to maintain the drink's character.
Stir gently in a mixing glass with ice for 15–20 seconds to chill and blend without over-dilution, then strain into a coupe or cocktail glass.
A coupe or martini glass is traditional; a rocks glass with a single large ice cube also works well for the flavors to unfold.
Increase the dry vermouth to 1/2 tsp or add a squeeze of lemon juice to balance the fruity sweetness of the sloe gin.
