Sloeberry Cocktail

Pro tips

• Use a bar dasher or Angostura bottle for precise bitters measurement—one dash is roughly 1/8 tsp and significantly impacts balance
• Chill your glass before serving to keep the cocktail cold longer and enhance the drink's silky texture
• Stir the bitters into the sloe gin gently to avoid bruising the spirit's delicate fruit flavors

Substitutions

• Aromatic bitters → orange bitters (adds citrus note)
• Old Mr. Boston Sloe Gin → any quality sloe gin such as Tanqueray or homemade (flavor intensity may vary slightly)

What is sloe gin and where can I find it?

Sloe gin is a gin-based liqueur infused with sloeberries (blackthorn fruit). It's available at most liquor stores in the gin or liqueur section.

Can I make this cocktail without bitters?

Yes, but bitters add complexity and balance the sweetness. The drink will be noticeably different without them.

Should this cocktail be served cold?

Yes, serve it chilled, either over ice in a glass or as a cocktail shaken with ice and strained into a coupe glass.

What type of bitters works best?

Aromatic bitters (like Angostura) are traditional, but orange or walnut bitters complement sloe gin's fruity notes well.
