Disassemble the percolator, separating the pot, the filter basket assembly, and the lid.
Pour water into the glass pot up to the 4-cup line.
Using a coffee scoop, add 8 scoops (approximately 1 cup) of ground coffee to the filter basket.
Place the spreader lid on top of the coffee grounds in the basket.
Insert the filter basket assembly into the pot of water.
Place the main lid securely on top of the percolator.
Place the percolator on a stovetop burner and turn the heat to medium-high.
Wait for the water to boil and begin percolating. You will see the coffee bubble up into the glass knob on the lid.
Once percolation begins, reduce the heat to low and allow it to gently perk for 5-7 minutes, depending on desired strength.
While the coffee is perking, add milk or cream and a small pat of butter to your mug, if desired.
Carefully remove the hot percolator from the stove.
Pour the freshly brewed coffee into your prepared mug and enjoy.
