A blended or light single malt Scotch works well. Avoid heavily peated varieties as they can overpower the delicate vermouth balance. Desmond & Duff or similar mid-range blends are traditional.
Stir the Affinity in a mixing glass with ice for 30 seconds, then strain into a coupe or cocktail glass. Stirring preserves the spirit's smoothness and avoids excess dilution.
Orange bitters add essential brightness and complexity. If unavailable, use Angostura as a substitute, though it will shift the flavor profile slightly toward spice rather than citrus.
Use quality dry vermouth (Noilly Prat, Dolin) and sweet vermouth (Martini & Rossi, Carpano). Equal-part vermouths ensure the drink stays balanced and approachable.
Yes, the Affinity is a classic aperitif cocktail designed to stimulate appetite before a meal, thanks to its herbal vermouth content and balanced spirit profile.
