Amaretto Sour
The history behind the Amaretto Sour is lost to the ages. Like many sweeter cocktails, this one often gets a bad rap, but fear not. Balancing out the sticky sweetness that the almond-flavored amaretto liqueur imparts to this drink is actually fairly simple. The first step is to ensure that the amaretto used is of good quality since it is the backbone of this cocktail's flavor. Second, use freshly squeezed, unsweetened juice to maximize the crisp, tart flavors needed to achieve a well-balanced drink. An egg white is always a welcome addition and will help to smooth out the boldness of these flavors as well. Fun fact: most amaretto contains no almonds at all, and actually gets its flavor from apricot pits—although for anyone who may be allergic, it's still a good idea to check the label.
