Into collins glass, put the juice of 1/2 lemon, 1 tsp.
powdered sugar, and 2 oz.
carbonated water.
Then fill glass with cracked ice and add 2 oz.
Fill with carbonated water or ginger ale and stir again.
Add spiral of orange or lemon peel (or both) and dangle end over rim of glass.
Light rum is traditional and keeps the drink crisp and bright. White or silver rum varieties work well.
Carbonated water is essential for the drink's signature fizz and lightness; still water will not replicate the same effect.
