For the Hot Glass Method, fill a tall glass with boiling water and let it sit for 30 seconds to heat the glass.
Carefully pour out the hot water, then immediately place the warm, empty glass over a cold stick of butter.
Let the glass sit over the butter for a few minutes. The trapped heat will gently soften it.
For the Sieve Method, take a fine-mesh sieve and firmly rub it along the surface of a cold stick of butter.
The butter will pass through the mesh, creating fine, soft strands that are instantly spreadable.
For the Vegetable Peeler Method, use a vegetable peeler to shave thin ribbons from the top of a cold stick of butter.
The thin ribbons of butter will soften very quickly and are easy to spread on toast.
