Common Questions
What is the difference between triple sec and curaçao?
Triple sec is a dry, clear orange liqueur, while curaçao is sweeter and more citrus-forward with deeper color. Both add orange flavor but curaçao brings more sweetness.
Can I make Claret Cup in advance?
Mix the brandy, triple sec, curaçao, and powdered sugar ahead of time, but add carbonated water just before serving to preserve carbonation.
What type of brandy works best?
California brandy or any smooth, mild brandy works well. Avoid high-proof or heavily oaked brandies that overpower the delicate citrus balance.
Should this be served hot or cold?
Claret Cup is typically served chilled over ice, not hot.
