El Presidente Cocktail No. 1

Pro tips

• Juice the lime immediately before mixing to preserve its acidic bite and aromatic oils.
• Shake all ingredients hard with ice for 10–15 seconds to ensure proper dilution and chilling.
• Use a jigger to measure the small pineapple and grenadine quantities precisely; they significantly influence balance.

Substitutions

• Old Mr. Boston Imported Rum → gold or light rum of equivalent proof (maintains spirit balance)
• Grenadine → pomegranate syrup (similar color and sweetness profile)

Equipment

cocktail shaker · jigger · strainer

Can I make this cocktail without pineapple juice?

Pineapple juice is essential to the flavor profile, but if unavailable, fresh pineapple purée or a small amount of pineapple syrup can substitute in equivalent volume.

Should this cocktail be shaken or stirred?

Shake vigorously with ice to properly chill and blend the citrus, pineapple, and grenadine components.

What type of rum works best?

The recipe specifies Old Mr. Boston Imported Rum; other light or gold rums of similar proof will work if that brand is unavailable.

How fresh should the lime juice be?

Always use freshly squeezed lime juice rather than bottled for the best citrus balance and flavor clarity.
