Screwdriver Cocktail (Classic Vodka And Orange Juice)

Pro tips

• Use fresh-squeezed orange juice if possible to avoid the cloying sweetness of packaged juice and ensure cleaner citrus flavor.
• Chill the vodka and orange juice beforehand; serve over fresh ice to prevent rapid dilution.
• Stir gently rather than shake to maintain carbonation if using any sparkling juice variation.
• Adjust the vodka-to-juice ratio to taste; a 1:3 ratio is standard, but some prefer a stronger or lighter drink.

Substitutions

• Vodka → gin (creates a different but complementary citrus cocktail)
• Orange juice → grapefruit juice (shifts flavor profile to bitter-tart)
• Orange juice → tangerine or clementine juice (adds subtle sweetness and complexity)

Storage & make-ahead

Mix individual cocktails fresh and serve immediately; pre-mixed batches keep refrigerated up to 2 hours before flavor degradation.

This drink is called a Screwdriver, a classic cocktail that dates to the post-war era.

Can I use bottled orange juice instead of fresh?

Mid-range vodka is sufficient since the orange juice is the dominant flavor; premium vodka won't noticeably improve the drink.
