Screwdriver Cocktail (Vodka And Orange Juice)

Pro tips

• Use ice cubes rather than crushed ice to slow dilution and keep the drink cold longer.
• Chill your glass beforehand for optimal temperature without over-watering the cocktail.
• Freshly squeezed orange juice provides noticeably better flavor than concentrate or shelf-stable varieties.
• Stir gently after mixing to blend flavors without aerating excessively.

Substitutions

• Old Mr. Boston Vodka → any premium or mid-range unflavored vodka (maintains flavor profile)
• Orange juice → fresh grapefruit juice (creates Greyhound cocktail, more bitter and tart)
• Orange juice → cranberry juice blend (adds tartness and deeper color)

Storage & make-ahead

Serve immediately after mixing; this cocktail does not store well due to dilution from melting ice.

What is the ratio of vodka to orange juice?

The standard ratio is 2 oz vodka to 3-4 oz fresh orange juice, adjusted to taste preference.

Should I use fresh or packaged orange juice?

Fresh-squeezed orange juice delivers brighter flavor, but quality packaged juice works if fresh isn't available.

Can I make this cocktail in advance?

Mix just before serving to prevent dilution; prepare components separately and combine over fresh ice when ready to drink.

What type of vodka works best?

Any smooth vodka is suitable; premium brands offer cleaner taste, but mid-range vodka performs well in this citrus-forward drink.

How much ice should I use?

Fill the glass with ice cubes to chill the drink and control dilution as it melts.
