Start with a nearly empty 30 oz mayonnaise jar, leaving the remaining mayonnaise at the bottom and on the sides.
Thinly slice the cucumbers and sweet Vidalia onion. A mandoline is helpful for uniform slices. Finely chop the fresh dill.
Pack the sliced cucumbers, onions, and chopped dill into the mayonnaise jar, layering them alternately.
Sprinkle the granulated sugar over the vegetables in the jar.
Pour white vinegar into the jar until the vegetables are covered and the jar is nearly full.
Add a pinch of salt.
Seal the jar tightly and shake vigorously to combine all the ingredients and coat the vegetables in the creamy dressing.
Refrigerate for at least a few hours before serving to allow the flavors to meld.
