X.Y.Z. Cocktail

Pro tips

• Use freshly squeezed lemon juice, not bottled, for brighter, more balanced citrus flavor
• Chill your glass beforehand by filling it with ice while you prepare ingredients
• Shake vigorously for 10-15 seconds to achieve proper dilution and temperature
• Taste for balance; adjust lemon juice slightly if the drink feels too spirit-forward

Substitutions

• Old Mr. Boston Rum → light/white rum (lighter body, cleaner flavor)
• Old Mr. Boston Triple Sec → Cointreau or Curaçao (higher quality orange liqueur, slightly different sweetness)

Equipment

cocktail shaker · jigger · Hawthorne strainer

Can I use a different rum in this cocktail?

Yes. Light or white rum works best as a substitute for Old Mr. Boston Rum; avoid aged or dark rums as they'll shift the flavor profile toward heavier notes.

Should this cocktail be shaken or stirred?

Shake with ice to properly chill, dilute, and combine the citrus and spirits. Strain into a chilled glass.

What glassware is best for serving?

A coupe, martini, or cocktail glass chilled beforehand works well. Serve up (without ice) or on the rocks depending on preference.

Can I batch this cocktail ahead of time?

Mix the spirits and lemon juice in advance, but shake with ice and serve immediately to preserve carbonation and temperature.
