Tips & Notes

Pro tips

Chill your glass before serving to keep the drink cold longer.
Pour the vodka and blue curaçao first, then top with lemonade and stir gently to avoid diluting too quickly.
Use fresh lemon juice in homemade lemonade for better flavor than pre-made mixes.
Adjust the ratio of lemonade to spirits based on desired sweetness and strength.

Substitutions

Vodka → light rum or gin (changes flavor profile slightly)
Blue curaçao → no true substitute (use triple sec + blue food coloring as workaround, flavor will differ)
Lemonade → citron vodka + fresh lemon juice + simple syrup (for more control)

Storage & make-ahead

Cocktails are best served immediately. Store any unused blue curaçao and vodka in a cool, dark cabinet for future use.

Equipment

highball or rocks glass · cocktail spoon or bar spoon · jigger (for measuring)

Common Questions

Can I make Blue Lagoons without vodka?

Yes. Substitute vodka with light rum, gin, or omit it entirely for a non-alcoholic version by doubling the blue curaçao and lemonade.

What's the difference between blue curaçao and triple sec?

Blue curaçao has a distinct blue color and subtle orange flavor; triple sec is clear and drier. Blue curaçao is essential for this drink's appearance.
