Tips & Notes
Pro tips
Brew strong black tea and let it cool completely before adding to prevent heat from affecting other ingredients.
Juice fresh lemons and oranges rather than using bottled juice for brighter, cleaner flavor.
Add carbonated water last and just before serving to preserve carbonation and fizz.
Chill all bottles and juices beforehand; adding ice directly dilutes the punch as it melts.
Substitutions
Brandy → Cognac (higher quality, more expensive)
Triple Sec → Cointreau or Grand Marnier (premium orange liqueur alternative)
Grenadine → pomegranate juice (less sweet, more tart)
Carbonated Water → Ginger ale or club soda with a squeeze of fresh lemon
Storage & make-ahead
Store unmixed components separately in sealed containers in the refrigerator for up to 2 days; combine fresh ingredients on the day of service.
Equipment
punch bowl · cocktail bar spoon or long spoon for stirring
Common Questions
Can I make brandy punch ahead of time?
Yes. Mix brandy, triple sec, grenadine, citrus juices, and tea the night before. Add carbonated water and fresh fruit just before serving to keep it bubbly.
What type of brandy works best for this punch?
Old Mr. Boston Five Star Brandy, as specified in this recipe, works well. Any mid-range brandy without excessive oakiness suits punch better than premium sipping brandies.
How should I chill this punch?
Chill all ingredients before mixing, or serve over ice. Add an ice block or frozen fruit ring to the punch bowl to keep it cold without diluting it as regular ice melts.
What fresh fruit works best as garnish?
Citrus slices (lemon, orange), berries, apple slices, and stone fruits work well. Float them in the punch bowl or on the surface for visual appeal and subtle flavor.
Can I scale this recipe down for fewer guests?
Yes. Divide all ingredients by 4 for a single serving batch, or by 2 for a smaller party. Maintain the ratios of brandy to citrus to grenadine.
