Common Questions
What is Claret Cup?
Claret Cup is a classic cocktail made with brandy, Triple Sec, Curacao, powdered sugar, and carbonated water. It's a light, refreshing drink with balanced citrus and brandy notes.
Can I use a different brandy?
Yes. Any quality brandy or cognac works well. Avoid very expensive varieties for cocktails; mid-range brandy delivers better flavor balance.
Should Claret Cup be served cold?
Yes. Serve over ice or use chilled glassware. The carbonation and sugar dissolve best when properly chilled.
Is Triple Sec or Curacao better for this drink?
Both are used in this recipe for balance. Triple Sec adds dryness while Curacao contributes sweetness and orange depth. Use both as written.
Can I make Claret Cup ahead of time?
Prepare the brandy, liqueurs, and sugar base ahead; add carbonated water and ice just before serving to maintain fizz.
