Line your cast iron pan with bacon strips, covering the bottom and sides.
Place the pan in an oven preheated to 400°F and bake for 15-20 minutes, until the bacon is nice and crispy.
Remove the cooked bacon from the pan.
Carefully pour the rendered bacon grease from the pan into a jar and set it aside for later.
To clean the pan, pour in the salt and water.
Using a scrub brush, scrub the pan to remove any stuck-on bits of food.
Rinse the pan and dry it completely.
Dip a paper towel into the reserved bacon grease and wipe down the entire pan, inside and out, with a thin layer.
Place the greased pan back in the 400°F oven for one hour to set the seasoning.
Turn off the oven and let the pan cool completely before using.
