Muddle first four ingredients well, pour into collins glass filled with ice and add gin.
Stir until glass is frosted.
Decorate with sprig of mint and serve with straws.
London Dry gin is traditional and recommended, as it provides a clean, botanical backbone that complements the citrus and mint without overpowering them.
Fresh-squeezed juice is strongly preferred for the brightest, most vibrant flavor. Bottled juice will make the drink noticeably flatter.
Gently press the mint leaves against the glass with the back of a bar spoon to release oils—avoid aggressive grinding, which crushes leaves and creates bitterness.
Mix and chill the gin, citrus, and sugar base ahead, but add fresh mint and ice only when serving to preserve the herb's aroma and prevent oxidation.
Powdered sugar adds a silky texture and dissolves directly into the citrus; simple syrup would work but dilutes the drink slightly more.
