Screwdriver Cocktail (Vodka Orange Juice)

Pro tips

• Chill your glass with ice before pouring to keep the cocktail cold longer without over-dilution.
• Use fresh orange juice if possible; it will have noticeably brighter flavor than pasteurized bottled juice.
• Pour vodka first, then top with orange juice to ensure proper mixing and accurate proportions.
• Stir gently with ice to chill without aerating excessively, which can dull citrus brightness.

Substitutions

• Old Mr. Boston Vodka → any neutral vodka (flavor profile remains similar)
• Orange juice → grapefruit juice (creates a Greyhound; more bitter and tart)

What is a vodka and orange juice cocktail called?

This drink is commonly known as a Screwdriver when made with vodka and orange juice in equal or standard proportions.

Should I use fresh or bottled orange juice?

Fresh squeezed orange juice will provide better flavor and brightness, but quality bottled orange juice works well if fresh is unavailable.

What is the standard ratio of vodka to orange juice?

A typical ratio is 1 part vodka to 2–3 parts orange juice, though you can adjust to taste preference.

Can I make this cocktail ahead of time?

Mix just before serving to preserve carbonation and freshness; pre-mixing may cause flavor separation or oxidation of the juice.

What type of vodka works best?

Any mid-range vodka works well; quality vodka will provide a cleaner finish, but the orange juice is the dominant flavor.
