Tips & Notes

Pro tips

Use fresh lime juice squeezed at the moment—bottled lime cordial will overpower the delicate soda balance.
Pour soda last and stir gently to maintain carbonation and fizz.
Chill your glass with ice water or in the freezer before pouring to keep the drink colder longer.
A 2:1 vodka-to-lime ratio prevents the drink from becoming too sour; adjust to taste preference.

Substitutions

Mr. Boston Vodka → any neutral vodka (Svedka, Tito's, Pinnacle)
Lemon Soda → lime soda or citrus soda (shifts flavor profile slightly)
Fresh Lime → 0.5 oz fresh lemon juice (increases tartness; reduce soda slightly)

Storage & make-ahead

Not applicable for cocktails; prepare and serve immediately. Pre-mix vodka and lime juice up to 4 hours ahead and refrigerate, adding soda only at service.

Common Questions

Can I use fresh lemon juice instead of lemon soda?

Yes, but it will taste more tart. If substituting, use about 0.5 oz fresh lemon juice and increase lemon soda to balance sweetness and carbonation.

What's the best way to chill this cocktail?

Pour vodka and lime juice over ice in a glass, top with lemon soda, and stir briefly. For a pre-chilled batch, chill glasses in the freezer first.

Can I make this ahead for a party?

Mix vodka and lime juice in advance and refrigerate, but add lemon soda and ice just before serving to preserve carbonation.

What vodka brand can I substitute for Mr. Boston?

Any neutral vodka works—Svedka, Pinnacle, or Tito's will produce similar results without changing the flavor profile.

How do I scale this for a group?

Multiply all ingredients by the number of drinks needed, mix vodka and lime juice in a pitcher, then top glasses with lemon soda and ice individually.
