Tips & Notes

Pro tips

Juice lemon fresh just before mixing—bottled juice will flatten the cocktail's brightness.
Dissolve powdered sugar fully into lemon juice before adding vodka and grenadine to avoid grittiness.
Shake hard for 10–15 seconds with ice to achieve proper dilution and chill; strain into your glass.
Add grenadine last as a float or stir gently for a layered effect that catches light.

Substitutions

Old Mr. Boston Vodka → any neutral vodka or gin (gin adds botanicals and dryness)
Grenadine → raspberry liqueur or crème de cassis (alters sweetness and flavor profile)
Powdered Sugar → simple syrup, 1/2 tsp (easier to mix, slightly less texture)

Storage & make-ahead

Cocktails are best consumed immediately after shaking. Store ingredients separately at room temperature (spirits, grenadine, sugar) and fresh lemon in the refrigerator.

Equipment

cocktail shaker · strainer · jigger

Common Questions

What is a Daisy cocktail?

A Daisy is a sour-family cocktail made with spirit, citrus juice, sugar, and often a liqueur or syrup. This version uses vodka and grenadine for a smooth, slightly sweet finish.

Can I make a Vodka Daisy without grenadine?

Yes—substitute with raspberry liqueur, chambord, or crème de cassis for depth. Omitting it results in a simpler sour, but it will lack the signature sweetness and color.
