Tips & Notes

Pro tips

Squeeze lime juice fresh just before serving to maximize citrus aroma and prevent oxidation.
Chill the cola beforehand; ice dilutes the drink as it melts, weakening flavor.
Taste as you mix—lime tartness varies by fruit ripeness, so adjust the ratio to your preference.

Substitutions

Fresh lime juice → lemon juice (tangier, less sweet)
Cola → ginger ale or cream soda (sweeter, different flavor profile)

Common Questions

Should I use bottled or fresh lime juice?

Fresh lime juice delivers better flavor and aroma. Bottled juice works but lacks the brightness and complexity of freshly squeezed.

What ratio of lime to cola works best?

Start with 1/2 ounce of fresh lime juice per standard drink (6-8 oz cola). Adjust to taste based on cola sweetness and lime tartness.

Can I make this ahead of time?

Best served immediately after mixing. Lime juice oxidizes and loses vibrancy within 30 minutes; carbonation also dissipates if made too far in advance.
