Planter's Punch No. 2

Pro tips

• Squeeze citrus immediately before mixing to preserve brightness and prevent oxidation.
• Use a jigger to measure rum precisely at 2 oz for proper spirit-to-juice balance; underpouring weakens the drink significantly.
• Chill the glass with ice before serving to maintain temperature and prevent dilution from warm glassware.
• Stir ingredients with ice until well-chilled, then strain into a fresh ice-filled glass to avoid over-dilution.

Substitutions

• Old Mr. Boston Imported Rum → Bacardi or Mount Gay rum (similar aged Caribbean profile)
• Fresh pineapple juice → unsweetened canned pineapple juice (note: may taste slightly more processed and less bright)

Storage & make-ahead

Best served fresh immediately after mixing; store unmixed citrus juices refrigerated up to 24 hours.

Equipment

jigger · bar spoon · cocktail shaker or mixing glass

Can I make Planter's Punch No. 2 ahead of time?

Mix the citrus and pineapple juices in advance and refrigerate, but combine with rum and serve immediately over ice for best flavor and carbonation if using any sparkling element.

What type of rum works best for this punch?

Old Mr. Boston Imported Rum or similar aged Caribbean-style rum provides the authentic flavor; avoid overproof or spiced varieties unless substituting intentionally.

How do I balance the tartness if the citrus is too strong?

Reduce lime or lemon juice by 1/4 oz or add a light simple syrup (1/2 tsp) to round out the acidity without overpowering the punch.

Is fresh juice necessary or can I use bottled?

Fresh-squeezed citrus and pineapple juice deliver superior flavor and balance; bottled juice tends to taste flat and overly sweet in this recipe.
