Limeade (Homemade Lime Juice Lemonade)

Pro tips

• Dissolve powdered sugar in the lime juice first before adding water to prevent grittiness and ensure even sweetness distribution.
• Taste as you go—lime acidity varies by fruit, so adjust powdered sugar to your preference before serving.
• Chill all ingredients before mixing for the most refreshing result.
• Fresh-squeezed lime juice delivers noticeably brighter flavor than bottled varieties.

Substitutions

• Powdered sugar → granulated sugar (dissolve thoroughly in warm lime juice first)
• Lime juice → lemon juice (creates traditional lemonade with less tropical tang)

Storage & make-ahead

Store the lime juice and powdered sugar mixture in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days; add water and ice just before serving.

How much water do I add to this lime lemonade?

Recipes vary, but typically 1 cup water per 3 tablespoons lime juice and 3 teaspoons powdered sugar is a good starting ratio. Adjust water and sugar to taste.

Can I make this ahead of time?

Yes, mix the lime juice and powdered sugar together and store in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Add water and ice just before serving.

What's the difference between lime juice lemonade and regular lemonade?

Lime juice lemonade uses lime juice instead of lemon juice, creating a tangier, more tropical flavor profile.

Should I use fresh-squeezed or bottled lime juice?

Fresh-squeezed lime juice produces the brightest flavor, but bottled works in a pinch. Avoid lime juice concentrate which is overly concentrated.

How do I dissolve powdered sugar evenly?

Whisk the powdered sugar with a small amount of lime juice first to create a paste, then add remaining liquid and stir until fully dissolved.
