Add ice, fill with soda water or

Old Tom gin is a slightly sweet, barrel-aged style. London Dry gin works as a substitute but will be drier; add an extra 1/4 tsp simple syrup to balance.
Soda water keeps the drink dry and citrus-forward. Ginger ale adds spice and sweetness; choose based on preference.
Use a channel knife or peeler to cut a long, thin spiral from lemon or orange. Express the oils over the drink by twisting, then drop it in or rest on the rim.
Serve in a highball or collins glass filled with ice for proper dilution and presentation.
