There are two prevailing theories about the Zombie. The first is that it was named for the effect it could have on those who imbibed in its tiki goodness. The second is that it was a sort of tiki version of the corpse reviver, designed to bring back from the dead those who had over-indulged the night before. Either way, the fact is that the three different types of rum in this drink make it a little freaky to say the least. Like any good tiki drink, it's bursting with fruit flavor, but bitters and demerara lend this cocktail a much more complex flavor profile. All in all, this cocktail is absolutely delicious, but be careful—it's just as likely to cause a hangover as it is to cure one.

Now this is a drink that will wake up your taste buds. Grapefruit soda gives just enough sweetness while lime gives it a sour kick. Throw in a little salt and some tequila, and what more could you ask for? Soda also imparts a fizzy quality that makes any drink ten times more refreshing. If southern Mexico made champagne, it would probably taste something like this. In a pinch, grapefruit juice, soda water, and simple syrup can be substituted for grapefruit soda, but it will yield a heavier drink, so try to opt for the former. Some people like a salted rim; others prefer to throw a little salt straight into the drink. Either is fine, just don't omit it.
